This is a weird one, as the Tractor Boys actually lost the match on the night. Nevertheless, it’s still a win overall and remains Ipswich’s greatest ever achievement. They won the FA Cup in 1978 as well, beating the much fancied Arsenal and also had a bright season in the Premier League in 2000/01, when they finished a lofty fifth and got back into Europe. They were unfortunate to draw Inter in that, and were done over by a Christian Vieri hat trick. Half the 1981 squad appeared in ‘Escape to Victory’ alongside Pelé, so maybe that helped things.
