You forget that Alan Pardew was a player and not just a touchline-dancing, player-heatbutting old lad that gets banned by the BBC. And this was his finest hour. I think this was his only hour. Nobody gave Palace a chance in this or the subsequent cup final, which in itself was a bit of a belter. Let’s face it, Liverpool winning and subsequently converting a penalty in the 83rd minute to go ahead is usually curtains in anyone’s book. Strange that they’d flap about like a bunch of myopic teenagers five minutes later and ultimately give Palace a bash at the big prize.
