Northern Ireland 1 – 0 England

A giant slaying at Windsor Park. Lovely stuff. Ultimately it was for nothing, as England qualified for the World Cup in 2006 ahead of everyone else. This result did give Poland a chance of automatic qualification, but they nutsed that up by losing to England in the final group game. An experiment with a diamond formation, David Beckham was deployed as a deep lying midfield ‘quarterback’ in this game. It worked amazingly well, as you can see.
