Slovakia 3 -2 Italy

I remember watching this and even up to the 88th minute, I assumed Italy would win. It’s just typically Italian to be that jammy. They did score, but no. All in all, it was a spectacularly bad campaign – drawing with New Zealand and Paraguay and losing to the Slovaks meant the Azzuri finished at the bottom of their group. But less about them, more about Slovakia. This is arguably their greatest victory on the international stage, rewarding them with a place in the second round. Unfortunately they went on to meet the Dutch, who were eventually tournament runners up. Which tells its own story. Still an unquestionable success.
