Liverpool 4 – 3 Newcastle

Talk about deja vu. Another year, another seven goal juggernaut at Anfield. Whilst the 1996 edition is held in such high regard that it has its own Wikipedia page, this one in many ways surpasses it. Liverpool being 3-0 up at half time only to be pegged back the full three goal quota two minutes from the end, only to clinch it in the last minute. You’ve got to feel for Newcastle, putting all that effort in for no return, two years in a row. As a spectator, I imagine seeing six goals go in at the end of the ground you’re not sat at could be frustrating, though I suspect seeing a winner like the one in this match makes it totally worth it. If not for Robbie Fowler, the Toon would’ve won both matches.
