Denmark 2 – 0 Germany

I don’t remember this being on Friday night, but there you go. I think it’s already well documented that Denmark shouldn’t even have been in this tournament. The whole Balkan nightmare was kicking off, so Yugoslavia got binned after qualifying (and also was unfortunately in the process of disintegrating as a nation). Up stepped the Danes to take their place. The group stage saw them up against the French and English at their most rubbish, so a loss to the home side Sweden didn’t stop them progressing. The semis looked like a dead end, but scraping through on penalties against the reigning champions (the Dutch) set up this legendary match. Presumably the result of which most of the world was pleasantly surprised with.
